10 facts about the Digital SAT exam

10 facts about the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) exam

1. Name:
Initially, this abbreviation stood for "Scholastic Aptitude Test". Today, however, it no longer represents the abbreviation of any words and is officially referred to simply as "SAT".

2. Organizer:
The test is developed and administered by the nonprofit organization called the "College Board" in the United States.

3. Scoring system:
SAT results are evaluated on a scale from 400 to 1600 points. The test consists of two main sections: Reading and Writing, and Mathematics. Each section is scored from 200 to 800 points.

4. Fully digital format (Digital SAT):
Since 2023 for international students and since 2024 for students in the United States, the SAT has moved away from the paper format and switched to a fully digital format taken on a computer or tablet.

5. Test duration:
The Digital SAT is significantly shorter than the previous paper version. Its total duration is approximately 2 hours and 14 minutes (previously it was about 3 hours).

6. Adaptive test:
The new SAT format is adaptive. This means that depending on how you answer the questions in the first module of each section, the difficulty level of the second module is automatically selected by the computer.

7. No penalty for incorrect answers:
In the SAT exam, there is no penalty for incorrect answers. Therefore, students are advised not to leave questions unanswered and instead make a logical guess.

8. Free use of calculators:
Calculators are allowed for all questions in the mathematics section. The special testing application (Bluebook) includes a convenient graphing calculator called Desmos.

9. Essay removal:
Previously, the SAT exam included an additional Essay section. However, the College Board officially discontinued this section in 2021. Currently, the exam consists only of multiple-choice and short response questions.

10. Importance in Uzbekistan:
SAT is not only important for admission to universities in the United States and Europe, but it also provides direct acceptance or significant advantage for admission to many international and prestigious national universities in Uzbekistan (such as WIUT – Westminster, Inha, Webster, Turin, as well as some programs in state universities where English and mathematics are the main admission subjects).
